VALANZ: Vallarelli, Lanziano & Associates is a young and innovative law firm led by Fabio Vallarelli and Mariano Lanziano.
He is a lawyer with an orientation in criminal law and public international law. He graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), also has a degree in Filmmaking from the Avellaneda Institute of Cinematographic Art (IDAC), and has a lecturer degree in Secondary and higher education in Legal Sciences (UBA). He has a master's degree in South American Cinema from the National University of the Arts (thesis pending) and took postgraduate courses on criminal evidence and litigation, ethics in public service, and criminal enforcement law.
For more than 10 years he has been working on issues related to human rights, with special orientation in criminal law, criminal enforcement law, and criminal policy evaluation. From 2017 to October 2024 he works as a lawyer for the Criminal Policy and Violence in Prison Context Team of the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS). Before that, he worked in the National Public Prosecutor's Office, and in private legal firms. He currently works as an independent consultant for human rights organizations, advising on issues related to the criminal defense of human rights defenders in the territory, criminalization of protest, and environmental protection. In addition, he focuses on the creation of narratives and communication materials with a positive impact on fighting the stigmatization suffered by human rights defenders in the exercise of their duty.
He teaches professional and legal practice, focusing on the clinical case study method. He serves as a lecturer in the assignments of Thesis Seminars and Pre-professional Practice of Law in the law degree program at the National University of Avellaneda (UNDAV) and is involved in the Legal Clinic for the Rights of Relatives of Persons Deprived of Liberty ACIFAD-UNDAV-UNLA. He also holds the position of lecturer for the Filmmaking I course at IDAC.
Lawyer with a solid record in the field of law recognized for his commitment to the defense of human rights and his experience in strategic litigation. Throughout his career, he has developed vast experience in public law, criminal law, protection actions, and administrative law, standing out for his ability to address complex cases with a comprehensive approach and innovative solutions. He has represented victims in emblematic cases of institutional violence, torture, and serious violations of fundamental rights. His performance includes active participation in processes on international organizations of the Inter-American and Universal Human Rights System, where he has promoted actions related to the protection of the most vulnerable people.
His work also extends to the national level, in which he has led oral and jury trials in defense of victims of serious human rights violations, as well as structural litigation to promote reforms in the penitentiary system and fight prison overpopulation, as well as to guarantee effective compliance with the National Constitution. His experience covers both the representation of individuals and collaboration with civil society organizations, providing a strategic vision to resolve legal disputes and promote public policies that respect the principles of equity and justice.
In the academic field, Mariano is the Director of the Law career at the Metropolitan University for Education and Work (UMET), he is Coordinator of the Pre-professional Practice courses at the National University of Avellaneda (UNDAV), he is a teacher and coordinator of the Legal Clinic for the Rights of Relatives of Persons Deprived of their Liberty ACIFAD-UNDAV-UNLA, and he is a teacher of Criminal Procedure Law at the National University of José C. Paz (UNPAZ). As a university professor and coordinator of legal clinics, he has led educational projects that combine theory with practice, providing his students with concrete tools to face legal challenges in various contexts. Additionally, he has contributed publications and research that address crucial topics, such as incarceration policies, institutional violence, and the rights of people deprived of liberty.
